Maybe an extended jail term will do him good. Maybe sober him up at
least.

He has been in jail three times for drinking, the days he got out, the
first thing he did was get a beer. He has slept a total of 2 years and a
few months in jail for DUI's. He told me, that he was not quitting, funny
thing, he stopped drinking for 2 years about 11 years ago and then started
back.
Tough love honey..tough love. You can't help him unless he wants to help
himself.

Moogie is right - you can't make other people change - they have to want it
and do it on their own. How unfortunate that you have to sit back and
watch your son destroy his life. I am very sorry...
The only thing that sobered up my idiot brother in law THIS time was we
went to a lawyer and started proceeding to taking his kids away.
His
blood alcohol level was 4.4 when my husband dropped him off at rehab. Yes,
4.4, he should of been dead.

That sucks the big one Cat. You are right though...you can only do so much
to help him. He has to want to change. He's a big boy now. Course, that
doesn't make it hurt any less.

The only person that can help him is himself.
My 2 cents.
